Welcome
It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Gold Star Awards Dinner. Not only should this evening’s awards recognize some very special people but should prove to be a very special evening for you. This year NAHF and the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports are combining resources to help highlight the importance and magnitude of this year’s winners and conference.
Checking the list of past winners will show the quality of the NAHF Gold Star Winners. Having the opportunity to honor one of the nation’s most outstanding national fitness leaders and advocates, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is indeed the highlight of this evening’s program. We are also proud to recognize Jake Steinfeld not only for his continuous support to the fitness field nationally, but his special effort in support of the this year’s conference and the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The final highlight of this evening will be our opportunity to recognize the contributions of two national organizations that are now taking on a much larger role in health and fitness promotions. It is an honor to recognize NRPA and AAHPERD this evening. An inside look at both of these organizations will show significant changes in their missions over the past few years where community health and fitness has become a greater part of their focus and PR programming efforts. We hope this evening will be one you will long remember.
We must also give a special thanks to Diane Sabba and Jay Daniels. These two individuals have been working day and night, 7 days a week to put this conference together. We all owe them a great big smile and a hug whenever we see them.
Thank you for attending this evening. We are proud to honor these leaders as they take us into the fitness world of tomorrow.
